‘Where words fail music speaks’

Hans Christina Anderson

image2When did you start singing and what motivated you to be a singer song-writer?

Well I grew up singing at my grandmother’s church.  My sister Natalie and I would duet, I’d always take the lead, obviously!  I went to university to study Law, and found that I didn’t have a passion for it.  I found that I had a passion for music, so I left the degree and started pursuing a career in music.

If you could define your style of music in 3 words what they be?

I’d say simple, heartfelt and easy listening.  Sorry that’s four words!

Your album ‘No Fear Here’ is due for release on 30th January. What’s the story behind the title?

The songs on this album have a very bright and optimistic outlook despite being born out of a difficult time.  I went through a period of time where I couldn’t create.  It was very painful, and when I drilled down to find the whys, I met fear and doubt at the base of the tree.  Confronting these forces and learning how to not be controlled by them helped me move out and through this dark time, and thankfully into a place where I could create again.  80% of this album is the first songs I wrote when I could write again, therefore these songs house the thoughts and emotions I was living with at that time.

Of course, I went on Youtube looking for videos of you because I am waiting patiently for your album. I absolutely love your song ‘The Promise’. Tell us a little bit about that song?

I love that song and it means a lot to me.  It’s entitled The Promise because when I was battling fear I would hear a voice of hope on the inside of me, encouraging me to not give up and that this season would pass.  And as most things do, that season did pass, and when I reflected on that time during the creation of this song I realised that hope has a consistent message: hope! The consistency of that message is a promise we can choose to accept, which can consequently help to bring us through and out of difficulty.

You are married and have two children. How do you manage pursuing your dreams along with family life?

It’s definitely challenging at times.  A balancing act, for sure.  I have an awesomely supportive husband who pushes me to pursue the dream in my heart.  Aside from that I feel like when you decide to 100% step onto a certain path, then a way to get everything done opens up.  You find time for all of the important things.  I am often tired though!

Your first single was ‘You’re beautiful’ which champions self-love. Why did you release that song first?

It’s quite a celebratory song, which we thought would be a fitting opener for the album. Ultimately, the two things that brought me out of that difficult period of time were love and identity, accepting love and knowing and loving who I am. This song encapsulates those themes perfectly so it just made sense.

Tell us one of your pet peeves?

Noisy eaters.  People talking to me when I’m writing an email or text.  People talking through films.  People who spit on the pavement.  I could go on but I won’t!

What are your plans after the album release date and what can your followers expect from you in 2017 and beyond?

We are currently programming a tour, which should hopefully be scheduled for late 2017.  And I’m currently writing for the next project.  I already have songs for an EP, we’ll see.
