When did you start singing and what do you love most about it?

I started singing when I was young, around 9 years old; I performed a lot in primary school and just loved music. I love the freedom that expressing yourself through song gives, there is something so liberating about it, and sound is so powerful.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Fun, creative and warm.

Your new single is catchy and your voice sounds stunning in it. What can we expect from your upcoming EP entitled ‘Heart to Heart’?

Thank you! Be There For Me was a lot of fun to write and record and I’m very grateful for the love it’s getting. From my EP ‘Heart to Heart’ you can expect to be taken on a musical journey, invited into a conversation and hear stories that you can relate to.

What is the story behind ‘Be There For Me’?

Be there for me came out of a conversation about some friendships I had that were changing – I wrote it together with Feranmi my producer after a conversation we had about how you feel when you are giving your all and not getting anything back. It’s  something we can all relate to at times, but it should come from an honest perspective of acknowledging your hurt, and the reality of the situation.

What is your process when writing songs?

It varies – songs come in different ways, when you least expect them as well as  when you do. I think the thing I do most is take time to sit with a new melody or lyric and unearth it. It’s an interesting process.

Who would you like to collaborate with and why?

There are so many people, but off the top of my head I would say Esperanza Spalding. She is an amazing Jazz singer and bassist and it would be great to create with such a talent.

Have there been challenges whilst trying to put your music out? If so what have those been?

There have been so many lol! It’s been a long journey, but I would say one of the biggest challenges was me!  I haven’t always found it easy to have confidence in myself and the gifts I have been blessed with, or been able to love them.   I think when you are afraid of what people will think, you are already hindered, so it’s taken me a while to be able to love my voice, my sound, and be extremely proud of what I have been given to create. Overcoming the internal challenges has helped me to deal with the external ones. Music is hard at times, but I do it because I love it and I now know I have something to bring to the table.
